What’s Up With the Meerkat?

When Evan Schapiro, Meerkat Technology’s founder, was trying to think of a name for his new e-commerce company back in 1993, he just happened to be visiting the San Diego Zoo. When he got to the meerkats, African mammals that live in close-knit communities where individuals take turns acting as sentinels and taking care of the young so that the other animals can concentrate on finding food, he saw a parallel between they way the meerkats organized their society and the way he wanted his company to function in the community. Plus, they were cute.

Meerkat Technology was born.

Like the meerkats, Meerkat Techology has made it it’s mission to be a member of the community that stands up to help other businesses, arts organizations and nonprofits succeed. By offering a secure, professional method for our clients to sell tickets, register people for classes and conferences, accept payments for memberships and donations and sell merchandise online, we have brought more than $30 million into the local economy. We also offer friendly customer service and can even help with marketing. Our low-cost services are designed to make life easier for our clients, so they can focus on what's most important to them.
