Grub's Place, a new musical, written and composed by Jane Blumberg, directed by Francene Amari and produced by Claudia Nimar premeres at First parish in late March.
This inter generational musical is set in an ant colony, Grub's Place asks the questions of what it means to be part of an important community. Denied the love he wanted and deserved, Grub creates a spot for everyone where his expansive heart commands compassion rather than conformity. Community life is enlivened by a Praying Mantis, irreverent fireflies, and commented on by the sardonic past-her-prime Recluse Spider from her stool at Grub's bar. Turf battles, jealous hearts, death and prejudice threaten the colony's survival. Roderick, longing to see the world, write poetry and learn philosophy, comes head to head with Agent whose more practical job it is to keep the queen well fed and the colony running.
